COLD SORE CAUSES, SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT.

These sores, known as fever blisters, are fluid-filled wounds caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 infection. The following cold sore treatments can reduce the frequency and duration of cold sores. 

Even without treatment, these sores usually heal in a couple of weeks.

Symptoms And Signs Of Cold Sore.

Blisters are one of the many symptoms. These blisters are small and filled with fluid. These abrasive blisters appear on a raised, reddish area of the skin. These usually appear near the mouth.

They can also be found on the lips, chin, and fingers. Blisters can also appear on the roof of the mouth or the gums. They can also appear on the underside of the tongue.

The prodrome (tingling or pain) occurs a day or two before the blisters. On average, the sores last 10 days to two weeks. The symptoms will appear one week after being exposed to the virus. It can take up to 20 days.

Breaking and oozing occur after the blisters form. Pinkish skin takes its place. This has no lasting effect.

When Should You Seek Cold Sore Treatment?

Consult your doctor if the sores do not heal within two weeks. If your immune system is compromised, you should seek medical attention. If the irritation is near your eyes or the symptoms are severe, consult your doctor. If your symptoms are severe, do not self-medicate; instead, consult your doctor.

Causes Of Cold Sores.

These blisters are caused by the Herpes simplex virus type 1. 

The herpes simplex virus type 2 is responsible for genital herpes. 

However, both strains may cause facial sores. The sores are spread by infected people.

Transmission occurs when an infected person uses the same towels or eating utensils as another infected person. Kissing can also spread this. The virus will remain inactive in the cells surrounding your skin after an episode. This can reoccur as an infection, usually near the original site.

Stress, fever, menstruation, and sun exposure can all cause recurrence. Knowing the triggers can help you avoid a recurrence.

It should be noted that these are not canker sores. Canker sores do not spread. Ulcers are the cause of these canker sores. These appear in the soft tissues of the mouth. They are not caused by the type 1 herpes simplex virus.

Cold Sore Treatments.

1. Salt can help to dry up a cold sore, but it can also be painful on the skin when applied. Furthermore, salt will not prevent the virus from multiplying or spreading. 

2. Petroleum jelly may soften the skin and act as a barrier against moisture loss. It will not prevent the virus from multiplying.

3. Applying toothpaste to cold sores during their blister phase may numb the area, dry out the blisters, and keep them from growing larger, according to the Wound Care Society.
